We spent two nights in Fort William, which only gave us a day to do any hiking. We ended up focusing on two activities, both of which included a lot of walking. When I looked at my Fitbit, we had logged 30,000 steps on the day and covered 334 “floors”.
We took the Gondola up Aonach Mòr Mountain and then walked about 30 or 40 minutes to one of the high points. In the afternoon, we went to see Steall Falls. I thought we were cheating a little bit because we took a taxi, but still had a 1 3/4 hike (if I remember correctly). When we came down the mountain, there wasn’t any cell service. So, we had to walk for about 30 or 40 minutes until we were able to call for another taxi.
Since there wasn’t anywhere to sit, or wait, we continued walking and were supposed to flag the taxi down once we saw it. That would be 40 minutes (or more) later…so we continued to walk down the mountain road.
There were few cars and every time I saw one, I was hoping and praying it was our taxi. After the morning walk and the other walking we had done, we were spent. Yet, no taxi in sight.
We came across a young lady that was trying to hitchhike. She was backpacking for two months so she could improve her English. She said she had been waiting for two hours and no one would pick her up. A few minutes after talking with her, we finally saw our taxi…so we walked back and asked if she wanted a ride, which she did.
30,000 steps later…we were more than ready for bed!
