Perhaps Chicken Little was Right!
Submitted by David on Thu, 02/14/2008 - 12:39Yikes! A satellite is falling to earth and NASA doesn't know where it will land. I guess we have until March to be prepared. They say that the debris will span a couple hundred miles. Hopefully the plan to 'shoot' it down won't have any adverse effects. I'm unclear on whether the plan to shoot it down is to limit damage on earth or simply to keep the technology out of the 'wrong hands.' Keep lookin' up!

I am Praying 4 You » The software
Submitted by David on Fri, 11/09/2007 - 18:15It's been a while since I've posted an update. I haven't been online much lately, but hopefully other things are slowing down and I will have more time to post.
I wanted to take this time to post a couple of web tools I found the past few days. One is software that allows you to share prayer concerns with others who also are running the software. Their web page explains it pretty well and you can find it at: I am Praying 4 You » The software.
Also, I found a site called prayer feeder. It is another way to allow you to share prayer concerns and also pray for others. PrayerFeeder is pretty cool because it allows you to set up prayer 'boxes' and prayer groups. You can find it at: Prayerfeeder. I'm on there as dmullens.

Moving Time...
Submitted by David on Tue, 05/29/2007 - 00:52If you found this, then you found the new site. I decided to start hosting my FuzzyThinking blog myself. It has been a good and bad experience. The good is I have full control. I can make changes and I'm not limited by the hosting service. The bad is the hosting service didn't allow me to 'export' any of my posts. I don't want to go into all the gory details, but it was a real pain to get my older posts (from blogsome) over to this site.
Another thing that was good was the ability to pull in my posts from my very first blog (called Dave's Place). So I have posts all the way back to my first blog entry in 2002. Through all the pain of moving, I now feel like I have found a home!
Random Stuff
Submitted by David on Sun, 03/04/2007 - 16:35Random Stuff. That link is to my Tumblr website . It is basically a simple blog, but it allows me to do a few things I can't do on any of my other blogs. Anyway, I'm keeping it for more random stuff, what I'm doing (via Twitter) and links via Del.icio.us and especially quotes I run across.
IMified
Submitted by David on Sat, 02/10/2007 - 23:31Right now I'm posting from a tool called IMified. It allows me to post to my blog by using a chat client. I know this will change the way I do things | | hopefully, this is a new line (but I don't know for sure). The formatting probably leaves something to be desired and I still don't know if I can tag this as anything other than 'default.'
UMSource Re-design
Submitted by David on Fri, 01/26/2007 - 08:22Well, I went and did it. I completely overhauled my UMSource site. Over the past year or two I've let the site become outdated. One of the reasons is the software I was using was prone to hackers. They never really effected the site much, but they did bother the server and my host would take the site down, tell me about the problem, then I would have to try to fix it. Usually this meant some type of upgrade which, at times, was a pain. I've moved the site to Wordpress which I hope works better.
I've also decided to change the focus of the site a bit. I believe the UMC needs to deal with issues such as being missional, emergence and even postmodernism. Within these 'buzzwords' there is a foundational need for true Spiritual Formation (There is a pop-spiritual formation which is a form of secular counseling with religious garb surround it). So, these are the issues I'm going to try to address, one way or another, on the site.
Along with those changes, I've invited a friend of mine Jeff Newtwon to put some articles on the site too. He is fully involved in a missional ministry and has wonderful insights.
Shell says biofuels from food crops
Submitted by David on Thu, 07/06/2006 - 13:17Shell says biofuels from food crops "morally inappropriate" - Yahoo! News
Here's something that has never crossed my mind. A producer of biofuel believes that using food (I'm guessing corn) to create fuel is morally wrong. The argument is, if there are people without food, using the food we do have to create fuel isn't a good thing.
They said they could make fuel out of plant waste and wood chips (the trees suffer again) to make fuel instead of food crops.
Some food for thought. Of course, our concern is never with the hungry or poor, so perhaps it is good that some companies are (even if in the end it is self-serving). I'm sure if we put our minds to it, we already have the resources to get food to those without food. It just isn't really cost effective.
The bottom line will probably end up being how to cut energy costs. We will spend plenty of $$ to figure out how to do that. How to get food to those without (or even getting people clean water) will just have to wait.
Hope Springs Eternal
Submitted by David on Fri, 02/10/2006 - 19:52Well, I finally admitted defeat and had a second phone line installed into our house. Defeat? you might ask... Well, I was holding out for DSL or Cable, or some type of broadband access, but it just wasn't happening in my area. In fact, the phone guy told me I'm only about half a mile away from having DSL. Oh well....for now it is dial up. Hopefully this will at least allow me to blog and post to umsource.net a bit more.
Lost My Domain :(
Submitted by David on Fri, 12/02/2005 - 17:45Well, I just found out yesterday that my domain (umsourse) expired and goDaddy is charging me $80 to get it back. I'm pretty disappointed considering I can get a new name for about $8. Right now I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I can get a different domain a lot cheaper, or I can wait and see if I can get the domain after it expires from goDaddy.
Usually there is a 'grace' period where domain name owners can get the name after it expires. It is usually 30-45 days. Many registrars don't charge extra during this time. GoDaddy has decided that it can charge quite a bit more.
So for now, my domain is gone...... This site is still working though.....
